Management Accountant

Company Information

VA is an Approved Training Organisation (ATO), operating Airbus A320 and Boeing 737-800 flight simulators at its Cambridge Airport Airline Training Centre. We provide simulator training to commercial pilots and airlines to meet the global demand for new airline pilots.

The company is growing rapidly, and has reached the stage where it would benefit from having an in-house Management Accountant.

You will be reporting directly to the Executive Directors and the key focus of this role will be to manage the accounts function, ensure day-to-day financial control over spending and report monthly to the management team.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Producing monthly management accounts, including KPIs

  • Assisting with the creation of department and project budgets

  • Analysis of expenditure variances to budget

  • Helping operations and other departments to manage within budgets

  • Credit control

  • Processing payments for authorisation by Directors

  • Overseeing invoice processing, managing the purchase order system and controlling spend against budget

  • Cash receipting, allocation and bank reconciliations

  • Processing expense claims

  • Quarterly VAT returns, including dealing with import VAT and duty

  • Ad-hoc tasks for department managers, including financial and cost analyses for sales

  • Administration and other duties relevant to the role

Person Specification


  • Experience of working in a fast-growing SME

  • Confident using Microsoft Excel and Xero

  • Natural team player, with good interpersonal skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to work to deadlines, quickly and accurately, and use own initiative

  • Excellent problem solving skills, with the ability to think outside the box and use own initiative

  • Resourceful and adaptable

  • Enthusiastic, motivated and reliable


  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified or part-qualified candidates are preferable, but candidates who are qualified by experience will also be considered

  • Industry knowledge of airline training would be an obvious advantage, but not essential as training will be given

This is a part-time permanent role, based at Cambridge Airport. 2-3 days per week, with the potential to increase to 3-4 days per week.
Salary based of a full-time equivalent of £35-40,000 depending on experience.

You must have the unrestricted right to live and work in the UK, and meet the requirements to be eligible for an airside pass.
