JAR/JAA Licence Conversion

Do you hold an FAA Licence and are looking to obtain a JAR/JAA Licence? Have you completed all the JAR Exams? Are you ready to do the final part of the exam? – Virtual Aviation can organise this for you in a seamless process.

Virtual Aviation can offer Initial Licence Skills Test for a conversion from FAA to JAR/JAA or an addition to an FAA Licence. We will help you through the organisation of the Civil Aviation Authority paperwork and follow this through to the completion of the LST in the simulator with the co-operation of the CAA in organising dates for your Observed Flight Test (this is normally conducted with a 90-day turn-round by the CAA upon receipt of your payment for the service).

What about exams and qualifications?
If you are at the final stages of completing your theory examinations, the CAA will accept your application. However, the CAA will not process your application for the Observed Test until they have the results of your exams and the 90 day turn-round starts from then. You will also need to be ‘current’ in that you should possess a full Class 1 Medical and a full RT Licence. If English Language is not your first language, the authority will accept a Language Proficiency (LP) licence assessment from English speaking national authorities and recognized training providers. If no licence endorsement or assessment has been completed, the LP can be completed during your RT test.

The LST and Training:
The LST itself, would normally be booked as a 4-hour detail. This is a standard recommendation to allow approximately 3 hours for the LST and an extra bit of time for any re-takes if necessary. For this detail, the CAA would be there for the Observation and confirmation of your licence upon completion. The CAA also recommend that you have some practice time on the simulator that you will be using to learn how it operates so that there are no surprises on the day of the LST.

We can also arrange extra training prior to your Initial LST suitable to your requirements depending on how long you have been off the aircraft type your are to do the LST on.

The Trainers we use:
We pride ourselves on being able to source some of the best TRE’s in the UK for this work, which are all hand-picked, so as to ensure that you are given the best possible training.

PNF – no problem!
If you have your own PNF, then this of course helps you as you know that person, and will also make the training price that bit cheaper, however, we also have access to many pilots on various aircraft types willing to jump in the other seat – be it LHS or RHS.

Civil Aviation Authority – what they need:
The CAA currently charge £762 for an Observed Flight Test and this is payable by the candidate directly to the CAA. The application form for this can be found on the CAA Website. You will need to also complete the payment form SRG1187 – again, this can be found on the CAA Website. Please note that both forms must be submitted together to complete the application.

As stated before, you should allow approximately 90 days for the turn-round of the application process to the observation. We can help by dealing directly with the CAA in organising dates for your Observation.

What aircraft types can we offer?
Please see our Locations & Simulators page for all available types. We do regret however, the one aircraft type that we cannot offer at present is the B777. Please note - an Initial LST is a legal simulator check with the CAA observing and as such, can only be completed on a Full Flight simulator.
