Why pick an ATO for your Jet Orientation Course?

The Jet Orientation Course is a course designed to tailor your flying to the specific needs required to fly a large jet aircraft. Whilst not a mandatory part of the ATPL, many airlines are now adopting the JOC as part of their entry requirements on the continual drive to get the most professional of applicants into the right hand seat.

The JOC is designed to develop a pilots ability to control a large jet aircraft. These aircraft have considerable handling differences to your average multi engine piston aircraft, and to bridge these gaps you need a complicated simulator to make the most of the training.

The gold standard aircraft to do your JOC on is the Boeing 737, and for good reason; it's not fly by wire. The 737 has very direct control and is one of the harder aircraft to fly, generic jets, private jets and clones of large transport aircraft like the 737 do not show the same level of realism required to get the most out of your jet orientation course. If you're investing in extra training to compliment your skills as a pilot, you need to cover all bases of jet handling; pitch power couple, the characteristics of highly swept wings, high altitude flight, single engine flight and dealing with the extra mass in a variety of approaches. This can only be achieved though the highest quality equipment available.

In addition to gaining valuable and accurate experience, doing your JOC via an ATO (Approved Training Organisation) has extra benefits, such as airlines accepting your training as an "official" course. Whilst the course is not regulated, it is viewed in the industry that if the training provider is approved, the standard will be higher. In addition to this a certified ATO will be using certified equipment, not simply Microsoft Flight Simulator with a mock cockpit.

In addition to this, you'll have the experience and ability to handle a 60 ton aircraft with ease and finesse, providing yourself with the best chance possible in your simulator assessments, your type rating and into your career as a professional pilot.
